Bordeaux is one of the top producing wine regions in the world and one of the oldest, with vines being planted in 80 A.D.
Vin de Châteaux (wine produced on a small scale on an individual property) are the most common types of wine in Bordeaux. This means that many wines from this area have strong personas. Most of the wines are made from a blend. On the red side, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are favored. With the whites, Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle are used most often.
Bacchus we thank who gave us wine
Which warms the blood within our veins;
That nectar is itself divine.
The man who drinks not, yet attains
By godly grace to human rank
Would be an angel if he drank. Pierre Motin, French drinking song
